Why Android Phones Are Getting More Expensive in 2026 — Even Older Models

Many Android phone companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung have started raising the prices of their android devices this April due to the cost at which they build these phones.

The shocking thing is that it is not just phones that are being manufactured but also the ones in the market. Prices of phones with no new features or new upgrades will also go upward, for no reason other than the fact that the companies making these phones are paying more to when producing them.

One of the main reasons for this increase is that the global rush to build artificial intelligence infrastructure is taking up a huge portion of the world’s chip supply. AI data centers need a huge amount of memory and processing power, and in return this demand is raising the prices of the same components. Components like RAM, storage, camera parts, among others which go into your smartphone.

Multiple estimation from several industries say that the possible price jump will be around 6% for 2026 only, though prices of certain models in several markets as gone up by as much as 15-25%. Brands like Oppo, Vivo, iQOO, and OnePlus all seem to have similar price adjustments.

What makes this moment different from anything we have seen recently is the direction of the trend. For years, when a company releases a new phone model, the prices of older models gradually decrease, making the users budget options better. But now the prices of older models are also going up.
