President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, announced a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran just hours before his deadline.
The president posted on his social media account on Tuesday evening that a two-week ceasefire has been agreed between the two countries. He said that they were close to finalizing the deal, which is a long-term peace agreement but will need more time.
This announcement came two hours before the deadline Trump gave Iran, in which he threatened to bomb their power plants and bridges if they didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz.
Hours before the two weeks ceasefire agreement posted by Trump, the president had posted that an entire Iranian civilization would “die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
Trump also credited Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, which he said reach out and requested that he hold off the strikes. In return, has Iran agreed to the complete and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz but insist that they will maintain authority over the waterway.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced the outcome of the deal as a “historic defeat” to the United States. He said that the US agreed to Iran’s ten-point plan and further agreed to lift primary and secondary sanctions.
According to multiple sources the Iran’s terms include regulated passage through the Strait of Hormuz under military coordination, the end of regional conflicts and reconstruction supports. Isreal has also agreed to the ceasefire, with all military operations said to be paused.
Oil prices have now dropped below $100 per barrel for the first time in days because of the two-week ceasefire.
