Penalty Shootouts Decide ESUT VC League Quarter-Finals, Enugu Rangers GM in Attendance

The quarter-final stage of the ESUT VC Football League delivered as expected, at the ESUT Field, with General Manager of Enugu Rangers, Amobi Ezeaku, present as a special quest.  

The two matches played were decided by penalty shootout after the fulltime ended in draws. With the semi-final at stake, the competing faculties displayed strength, resilience, and composure under pressure. 

Environmental (0) (2) Vs Biological Sciences (0) (4)– Match Report 

The opening quarter-final fixture between Environmental and Biological Sciences proved to be a disciplined encounter between the two teams. Both faculties approached the game with caution, prioritizing defense until there were opportunities to attack. 

Despite creating chances, Environmental with a total shot of 8 and Biological Science with a total shot of 3, neither team was able to score during the full-time, as both faculties defense stood firm. 

The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where composure made a difference. Biological Sciences scored four of their penalty kicks with one missed, while Environmental scored 2 of theirs and missed two, securing Biological Science a 4-2 victory in the shootout and a place in the semi-finals. 

Law (1) (7) Vs Allied Science (1) (6) – Match Report 

The second quarter-final fixture produced a greater drama, as Law faced Allied Science in a highly competitive match. 

Law opened the scoresheet, as Agbata scored from a long range. After the goal, the Law players became careless with the ball and couldn’t convert chances in front of the goal.  

Allied Science responded and found the equalizer, after which they demonstrated attacking intent towards goal and control throughout the rest of the match. But the match ended 1-1 full-time. 

With no winner after full-time, the match was decided by penalties. In a tense penalty shootout, Law defeats Allied science 7-6, with Law goalkeeper, Gusterv, with two brilliant saves to seal their qualification for the semi-finals. 

Presence of Enugu Rangers General Manager 

The attendance of Barr. Amobi Ezeaku, General Manager of Enugu Rangers, was a significant highlight of the day. His presence not only elevated the status of the tournament but also served as encouragement to students who are aspiring to professional football careers. 

His support reflects the growing recognition of the university-level football development within Enugu State.

The remaining quarter-final matches will be played on Thursday, 17th February 2026, at the ESUT Field: 

Physical Science Vs Social Science – 1:30 PM 
Engineering Vs Management Science – 3:30 PM 

With two more semi-final spots up for grabs, anticipation continues to build as the VC Football tournament enters its decisive phase.
