Naira Slips Against Dollar at Official FX Market Hours to New Year

The naira slipped against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Tuesday, just few hours before the new year.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the local currency weakened to ₦1,445.68 per dollar on Tuesday, compared to ₦1,442.51 recorded on Monday.

The last time the naira fell at the official window was on December 18, when it exchanged at ₦1,457.84 to the dollar.

However, the naira remained stable, at the parallel (black) market trading at ₦1,475 per dollar on Tuesday, unchanged from the previous day.

Reports say the mixed performance in the foreign exchange market comes even though Nigeria’s external reserves have rose to $45.45 billion as of December 29, 2025.
