Preliminary investigations by the FRSC Ogun Sector Command revealed that five adult males were involved in the incident. Two occupants died at the scene, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Joshua was rescued alive and reportedly suffered only minor injuries.
According to the statement, the injured victim was taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was also notified to carry out further investigations and complete necessary documentation.
The FRSC disclosed that initial findings showed the Lexus SUV was suspected to be travelling above the legally permitted speed limit when it lost control during an overtaking maneuver and rammed into the stationary truck parked by the roadside.
The corps noted that excessive speed and dangerous overtaking remain serious traffic offences and are among the leading causes of fatal road accidents on Nigerian highways.
The statement also conveyed the condolences of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to the families of the victims. “On behalf of the entire management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua, a speedy recovery,” it read.
The FRSC further advised motorists to prioritize safety at all times, cautioning against speeding and reckless overtaking, especially during the festive season. The corps reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads, prompt emergency response, and sustained public education aimed at reducing road crashes and fatalities nationwide.
