The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has ordered the disbandment of traditional rulers of the Amasiri Clan in Afikpo Local Government after a violent attack that left four people dead in Okporojo, Oso Edda community.
This decision was made after reports that attackers from the Amasiri Clan killed and beheaded residents of the Okporojo community in Edda Local Government Area.
Governor Nwifuru made an announcement on Saturday; has he visited the Okporojo Community to access the situation firsthand. He described the attacks as shocking and unacceptable, saying that such violence would not be tolerated in Ebonyi State.
He said to the residents that the victims of this tragic event will get justice assuring them that the government will track them down and punish those involved. The Governor further urged the residents of the Okporojo community to remain calm and avoid retaliation, warning that it will further escalate the crisis.
According to the Governor, the conflicts between the two communities have lasted for several years despite multiple peace meetings and boundary agreements, which he said were constantly ignored.
He warned the Amasiri Community to rethink their actions, saying that continued attacks will lead to further crisis that will be out of control. The Governor explained that his visit was a clear warning that the state government would no longer tolerate lawlessness.
He concluded by saying that the government would take further steps to protect lives and restore order, if necessary. The Governor further promised that the Edda area would begin to see real development and government intervention from next year.
