The Student Union Government (SUG) of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) announced a new transportation plan aimed to help students move around the Faculty of Pharmacy and Allied Health more easily.
The statement was in a notice signed by Comr. Nwodo Faustina Chizaram, popularly known as Zara. The conclusion for this new plan followed many complaints by students concerning the difficulty in finding transportation in the faculty area.
According to the statement, the Student Union Government (SUG) took the issues to the management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), which approved a temporary transportation plan which will aid student move freely.
Under the new transportation plan, tricycles (Keke) and motorcycles will mainly operate on those faculty routes. Tricycles operators will now pick passengers from the main park rather than waiting in front of hostels, which was the former routine.
Tricyle and motorcycles will now carry students from the main park to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, while another will be transporting students from the faculty to several locations such as back gate, main parks, hostels and other areas in campus.
The Student Union Government also announced the approved transport fare to be paid to transportation operators. Tricycle (Keke) rides from the faculty to any location inside campus and back gate will cost 300 Naira (#300). Motorcycle rides inside campus will also cost 300 Naira (#300) for one passenger and 500 Naira (#500) for two passengers, while transportation from campus to front gate will cost 500 Naira (#500).
However, the SUG explained that this new transportation system will be a one-week trial. If students do not make use of the transportation system or fail to cooperate, the transport operators will be removed and asked to return to their former route of transportation.
Students were therefore encouraged to cooperate and support the idea of this new transportation system for the betterment of a free and easy transport system within the campus.
