Senegal Shock Hosts Morocco to Win 2025 AFCON After Dramatic Final

Senegal defeats hosts Morocco 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Staduim in Rabat on Sunday, a dramatic final overshadowed by controversy and repeated stoppages.

The match started competitive, with both sides making attempts to secure an early goal, but both goalkeepers came out with brilliant saves to match.

Late in the 90th minutes chaos sparked as the Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ndala awarded a penalty following a VAR check after Brahim Diaz was pushed to the ground by Senegal Defender El Hadji Malick Diouf.

As a result, caused prolonged delays as officials struggled to restore order, with players from both sides leaving the pitch before later being persuaded to return following the intervention of several match officials, security personnel and some players. Senegal scored in the 94th minute as the Villarreal defensive midfielder Pape Gueye unleashed a long-range stike that flew right into the top corner of the net.

After the goal, Morocco pressed hard for a late equalizer, with attempts hitting the crossbars and others saved by the Senegalese goalkeeper. Senegal stood firm to seal the win in one of the most heated AFCON finals
