Simeone Apologizes to Vinicius Jr Over Touchline Incident in Super Cup Clash

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has apologized to Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior over the incident that occurred during their Spanish Super Cup semi-final match last week.

Diego Simeone was heard making remarks from the touchline directed at the 25-year-old Player, hinting that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez might be considering selling him. The Atletico manager was also seen exchanging words with Vinicius after the forward was substituted in the 81st minute of the match, which Real Madrid won 2-1.

Addressing the issue, Simeone admitted his fault and offered an apology. “I would like to apologize to Mr. Florentino and Mr. Vinicius for what happened. It was wrong of me to put myself in that situation, and I accept that. The team that won deserved to qualify, and they did,” he said.

When asked whether his actions went too far, Simeone responded, “I apologize, but I am not asking for forgiveness. I have nothing more to say.”

Vinicius, whose contract with Real Madrid is to end on the summer of 2027, was influential in the victory that sent Los Blancos into the final, where they later lost 3-2 to Barcelona at the final in Saudi Arabia.

This has caused debate over Simeone’s fiery touchline conduct and the intense rivalry between the two Madrid clubs. While the Atletico boss has now publicly apologized, it remains unclear whether the incident will have any lasting effect on relations between the teams or the players involved.
