Nigeria Super Eagles move to the semi-final in the Africa Cup of Nations after a convincing 2-0 win against Algeria on Saturday.

Nigeria dominated Algeria from the start of the match, both in defense and attack. The super eagles created multiple chances before the break, one of which was a clear one-on-one chance missed by Akor Adams, while another promising efforts was dramatically cleared off the line by the opposition.

Victor Osimhen opened the scoresheet two minutes after the beginning of the second half, calmly guiding in a long cross from the left by Bruno Onyemaechi. Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane misjudged the flight of the ball with an awkward leap, allowing the effort to slip past him.

Nigeria continued their dominace in the game, which led to Adams increasing the lead 10 minutes later with Osimhen providing the assist. The forward selflessly passed the ball to Adams, who rounded Zidane and scored into an empty net to seal the result.

The Super Eagles could have gone into the break ahead after creating several openings in the first half. In the 29th minute, Algeria defender Ramy Bensebaini cleared off the line after goalkeeper Zidane misread Ademola Lookman’s free kick, allowing Calvin Bassey to poke goalward from a tight angle. Replays suggested the ball may have crossed the line, but a VAR check, without goal-line technology, did not award the goal.

It was a wonderful display from the Super Eagles, who brushed aside disappointment from missing out on World Cup qualification two months ago, focusing on the AFCON competition as their looked sharper and stronger in every game.

The win means the Super Eagles have now reached the semi-finals in 17 of the last 20 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments they have qualified for. They will face Morocco in Rabat on Wednesday for a place in the final.
