Senegal have booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Mali 1-0 in the quarter-final in Tangier, Morocco.
Iliman Ndiaye scored the decisive goal after 27 minutes, taking advantage on a costly goalkeeping error to give Senegal the lead against their west African neighbors.

Mali’s task became even more difficult just before halftime when captain Yves Bissouma was sent off for a second yellow card. He was booked earlier for a clumsy challenge in the 25th minute and was dismissed for an unnecessary foul on Idrissa Gana Gueye.
The only goal in the tightly fought encounter saw Senegal maintain their impressive form in the competition, with their organized defense frustrating Mali throughout the second half.
Senegal’s victory extends strong recent record against Mali, who have been unbeaten against Mali in recent meetings. It also marks Senegal’s fifth appearance in the AFCON semi-finals and stretches their unbeaten run in the competition to 15 matches, one of the longest streaks in tournament history.
Mali entered the quarter-finals against Tunisia with a 10 men team from the 26th minute and were still able to squeeze through on penalties, but were unable to find the net against Senegal’s organized defense. Having drawn all their previous matches, Mali is now out of the competition, with their hopes of reaching a semi final in the AFCON competition since 2013 comes to an end.
Senegal’s progress keeps their quest for continental glory alive and sets up a high-stakes semi-final showdown as the tournament moves closer to its climax.
