The Federation of Enugu West Students (FEWS), Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) chapter, has announced plans to host its much-anticipated Inauguration Football Tournament, scheduled to run from January 16 to January 23, 2026.
The tournament, organised in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Health and Sports, ESUT, will feature football teams representing the five Enugu West Local Government Areas — Udi, Ezeagu, Agwu, Oji River, and Aninri. All matches will be played at the Fans Field.
According to the organisers, the event is aimed at promoting unity, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among Enugu West students on campus, while also serving as a platform to discover young football talents.
Speaking on the importance of the tournament, the Director of Health and Sports, Sen. Nkedife Amauche Nora, popularly known as LilyNora, described the competition as more than just football. “This tournament is a celebration of unity, sportsmanship, and youthful excellence among Enugu West students,” she said.
She added that the event also marks the official inauguration of the newly elected FEWS executives, noting that it represents a fresh start for the student body. “It symbolises the dawn of a new leadership era anchored on service, inclusiveness, and progressive student representation,” LilyNora stated.
Beyond the football action, organisers say the tournament is designed to strengthen bonds among students from different local governments, encourage healthy living, and foster a strong sense of belonging within the FEWS community.
Students, stakeholders, sports lovers, and members of the public have been invited to attend and support their respective teams throughout the duration of the competition.
The announcement was formally signed by Sen. Nkedife Amauche Nora, Director of Health and Sports, while Comr. Prayer Gideon, the P.R.O of FEWS ESUT Chapter, serves as the official announcer of the event.
The FEWS Inauguration Tournament is expected to draw a large crowd and add excitement to campus activities as the new student leadership begins its tenure.
