United States president, Donald Trump, sends threats to Iran on Friday, saying the U.S. will intervene over the killing of peaceful protesters, after several security personnel fired at them.
“If Iran shots and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue” he stated in a social media post, further adding “We are locked and loaded and ready to go”.
Shortly after Trump’s post, a top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Larijani, fired back with a warning to Donald Trump, saying U.S. interference in domestic Iranian issues could plunge the Middle East into widespread chaos.
“Trump should know that US interference in this internal matter would mean destabilizing the entire region and destroying America’s interests,” he stated.
Video surfacing online shows multiple people repeatedly shouting “shameless,” gathered in front of a burning police station at night as gunshots were been fired
Reports say, at least eight people have been killed in the protest which was said to be caused by the intensified economic condition in the country with over 133 arrests being made, mostly in Western Iran.
Iran’s Fars news agency said security forces had arrested an undisclosed number of suspects in the western city of Kermanshah over allegations of producing petrol bombs and improvised pistols, they also reported that two armed individuals were apprehended in the central and western parts of the country before they could carry out planned attacks.
Trump did not clarify what specific measures the United States might take in response to, or in support of, the protests.
Washington has for years maintained sweeping financial sanctions on Tehran, especially since former President Donald Trump’s first term. In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from Iran’s nuclear agreement with world powers and launched what he described as a “maximum pressure” campaign against the Iranian government.
